Spring Into Action

SPRING INTO ACTION CHALLENGE

The Spring Into Action challenge has been an annual event sponsored by Horizons Community Development Associates Inc. for several years. Our goal has been to get our participants up and moving at least 30 minutes each day, five days each week, to improve and sustain your health and well-being. It has also been our goal to have FUN while we do it!

Our challenge runs for six weeks, beginning each year in April.

The goal is for participants to accumulate at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day for five days each week.

30 minutes of activity can be accumulated throughout a 24- hour period in a minimum of 10-minute blocks of time.

There is an opportunity for every individual to win a weekly prize draw as long as they meet their 30 minutes per day for five days a week.

There will be two Grand Prize draws at the end of the challenge. The individual grand prize is $100 to be used toward something related to physical activity (e.g., new running shoes, swim passes, family outings to the gym). The team grand prize is a $150 donation, made by Horizons in the winner's name, to a local sport/recreation fund for kids chosen by the winner. To qualify for the Grand Prizes at the end of the Challenge, an individual must meet the goal of 30 minutes per day/ five days per week for all six weeks of the Challenge. To be eligible for the team grand prize, ALL members on a team must meet this goal for every week of the challenge.

Please see the instructions below on how to register. All registration links and documents are also found at the end of the instructions on this page. Once registered, you may like to bookmark this page as you will be returning here weekly to submit your times.

We look forward to welcoming back all the participants from our previous Challenges, and look forward to meeting new ones!

Spring Into Action Challenge - Instructions

This year's challenge will run from April 8 to May 17, 2024.

Step 1: Get a team together (you may want to include co-workers, friends, family members…) and decide on a team name. Identify a team captain who will register your team and team members for the challenge and who will collect and submit your team's information each week. You can register online using the link below or fill in the registration form (link also found below) and send it by email to sia@horizonscda.ca. or by fax to 902-542-4765.

Remember: Your team can have up to 10 members (including the Captain). If you have more than this, you may want to consider dividing your team into two teams and have a little competition between you. Please make a note of your Username and Password when you register your team. You will need this information when submitting your time each week. Please use lowercase letters and no spaces or special characters (such as apostrophes or hyphens) in your Username and Password.

Step 2: Each person keeps track of her/his activity using their daily activity sheet (the link to the activity sheet is below) and submits their form to their Team Captain every Monday during the Challenge.

Step 3: Team Captains will enter the information from the daily activity sheets using our online reporting system (click the icon below in the bottom right corner to access the system). For those without internet access, your team captain will summarize your weekly timesheets and email the results to sia@horizonscda.ca.or by faxing it to 902-542-4765.

We strongly encourage everyone to use the online system when possible as it is quicker, and will reduce the possibility of human error. Remember, you must have your times in by midnight each Tuesday during the Challenge to potentially qualify for the weekly prizes!

Good luck to everyone!
